Cox® Disc Decompression Adjustment & Manipulation

As of January 2004, the Cox® Technique, based on research performed, completed, and published has shown the following biomechanical effects on the spinal motion segment:

  • Increase of the intervertebral disc space height
  • Decreases in intradiscal pressure
  • Foraminal increase in area
  • Physiological motion of zygapophyses

Evolution of the technique, based on the outcomes of these completed research studies, is best described by the following change of name: COX® DISC DECOMPRESSION ADJUSTMENT AND MANIPULATION

Cox® Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation is a chiropractic adjusting technique, a gentle, chiropractic adjustment procedure for BACK and NECK pain. Its procedures were established by Dr. James M. Cox and have evolved over the past 38+ years due to the many efforts of researchers and fellow chiropractic physicians. Cox® Distraction is a safe alternative to back surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions don't demand surgical intervention or back surgery. Cox® Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation may help relieve pain from disc herniations, failed back surgery syndromes, leg pain, sciatica, neck pain, arm pain, ruptured discs, herniated discs, slipped discs, low back pain, facet syndrome, bulging discs, spondylolisthesis, transitional segment, rib subluxations, thoracic spine pain, scoliosis, sprain/strain, disc prolapse, etc. Acute back pain and spinal pain as well as subacute back pain and chronic back pain can be addressed.

Cox® Disc Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation is taught at nearly all chiropractic colleges as core or elective course material. Post Graduate Certification courses are taught by Drs. James M. Cox, Kelly Brinkman, and Jeff Shurr (in England) in affiliation with the National University for the Health Sciences. A referral network of chiropractic physicians certified in Cox® Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation procedures is established and published on the technique website. The definitive textbook on this technique is published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins titled Low Back Pain: Mechanism, Diagnosis and Treatment (6th edition) by James M. Cox, DC, DACBR, with guest authors. (This and other reference material are available through the website www.chiromanis.com.)

Cox® Disc Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation is well-established in the literature from biomechanical studies to case reports. Some studies in flexion distraction treatment outcomes are underway which are supported by federal grants.
